Electrical machine design based on 2D FE simulations

FEMAG is a fast, accurate and cost-effective software application system for the design of electrical machines. It is runnable on MS Windows, Linux, Mac and Cloud platforms and includes various modules that can be combined or used independently.
The development started 1982 at the Institute for Electrical Machines of ETH Zurich by Prof. Reichert and is being evolved continuously since then.

Five FEMAG Classic simulation modules: DC, AC, ME, TH, TS

The simulation modules can be run stand-alone with a terminal-based user interface or in script mode. The models can be built from parameterized templates interactively or with LUA script. Various FE simulations for two-dimensional fields or rotationally symmetric fields with postprocessing are available. The results are written into text and VTU files.

FEMAG-DC Classic

Magnetic fields with time-independent excitation (currents, magnets, fluxes), calculates inductions, fluxes, forces, torque, losses, demagnetization, Ld / Lq parameters.

eddycurrent field

FEMAG-AC Classic

Magnetic fields with sinusoidally varying excitation (currents, magnets), calculates eddy currents, induction machine characteristics.

FEMAG-ME Classic

Mechanical stress caused by local forces, pressures on surfaces or force densities on volumes resulting from magnetic field calculations, calculates the displacements based on the applied forces and the thermal expansion. In the case of press fits joint pressures can be calculated.

temp trans 14

FEMAG-TH Classic

Heat transfer and temperature distributions by using the losses from magnetic field calculations, analysis of static and transient temperature distributions.

ShortCircuit wdg curr transparent

FEMAG-TS Classic

Magnetic fields by time-stepping method, analysis of short-circuit and other transient events with user-defined time-varying excitations.
